After months of anticipation the season is under way at the Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway. This will mark the Speedzone’s 10th anniversary.
There were many of the veterans there at the practice and a lot of new faces that took some practice laps.
If the car count for the practice is any indication of what the season holds we should have an excellent car count for opening night and throughout the year. There were more than 60 cars that went through inspection and did some testing.
From where the track started out on Monday to today, Mike Rabe did an outstanding prep job on the track. The drivers saw a dry slick track in the beginning and then they were able to come out and run on a tacky track. The drivers had opportunities to try different set ups for both track conditions.
Veteran driver Ben Brinkman said that this practice was probably one of the best practices that he has seen at the Speedzone.
The 2009 season gets underway marking the 10th anniversary next Friday May 8th. Pit gates will open at 4:00pm with admission of $22.00 and transponder rental fee of $5.00.
Grandstands will open at 5:00pm with racing to begin at 6:30pm. Admission for the grandstands are, Adults $10.00, Students 11-15 and wheel chair persons $5.00 and 10 and under free with a paid adult admission.
With County Y under construction, all spectators and drivers will have to use the same entrance and exit, just off of Hwy 76. The Speedzone staff has made a sign that was placed by the entrance just off of Hwy 76, “Stock Car Race’s, enter here. When entering the track, all race cars must use left side of road and grandstand entrance must use ride side of the road.
